William J Young Surveying Compass - pre 1867:
$801

Up for sale is a very early William J. Young surveying compass in the original wooden box with accessories. The face of the compass says William J Young maker and Philadelphia at the bottom of the dial. This compass was made before 1867 when Young went into business with Watson and Heller to form the William J Young company. He died in 1870. This beautiful instrument is in remarkable condition. The only flaw is that the liquid in the bubble is dried up. The box has one small chip on the lid in the back, and there was some tape on the side, but it is a beautiful handmade dovetailed box. There is an inscription on the bottom of the box from the original owner, but it is not completely legible.
